After Rioja, Priorat is Spain’s most important wine region. From the frighteningly steep, red-slate slopes of Catalunya, it is one of only two DOCa regions in the country—Spain’s highest wine classification. The Cartuja is made from a single vineyard and offers gracious and approachable elegance. Ripe with dark berries, licorice, and a pretty perfume, the palate is juicy with ample size, structure, and focus (a likely result of half the wine being aged in French oak). Have it with full-bodied cheeses, smoked ribs, or lamb!
