The region of Calabria in southern Italy is known for much more than just its delicious peppers; it also makes some truly remarkable wines! The Scala family has been making wine since 1949 and has been producing Ciró wines since the DOC was created in 1969. Their Rosso is made from Gaglioppo, a thick-skinned grape that results in a wine that is full-bodied and aromatic with notes of blackberry and plum and herbal spice. Ripe tannins and distinctive, full flavors make this a hearty yet easy-to-drink red. Try pairing with stew or spaghetti with those Calabrian peppers!
